Satpas Garut Polres Refuses to Serve Applicants Using Brokers and Deplores Broadcasting of Unconfirmed Slanted News

Head of the Garut Polres Traffic Unit, AKP Lucky Martono.

progresifjaya.co.id, GARUT – The Garut Polres Traffic Unit emphasized the importance of public understanding of the official mechanisms involved in the driver’s license (SIM) process. This emphasis is a manifestation of the Garut Polres Traffic Unit’s commitment to providing transparent, fast public services free from brokers and extortion.

The Head of the Garut Polres Traffic Unit, AKP Lucky Martono, explained, that the public does not need to use intermediaries or brokers when applying for a driver’s license (SIM A) for four-wheeled vehicles or a SIM C for two-wheeled vehicles.

“Applicants simply need to come directly to the Satpas (SIM Administration Unit) in their domicile or the nearest location. There, they can register and take all stages of the exam,” AKP Lucky said recently.

He also added, that the SIM issuance process is carried out in stages, not instantly. This process starts with registration, the theory test, and the practical test. If the applicant passes all stages, the SIM will be issued on the same day.

The entire SIM issuance process must also be accompanied by payment of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) in accordance with Government Regulation Number 76 of 2020 concerning Types and Tariffs for Types of PNBP within the Polri.

The official rates for new SIMs are:
Rp120.000 for a Class A SIM and Rp100.000 for a Class C SIM. This fee does not include medical tests, psychological costs, and insurance, which may vary by location.

“We have received direct instructions from our leadership to take firm action against any personnel or external parties involved in brokering practices. The Satpas Garut Polres will not tolerate extortion in SIM services,” said AKP Lucky.

He further emphasized, that the Satpas Garut Polres will never accept applicants facilitated by brokers.

“You must come directly to the Satpas Garut Polres Traffic Unit. We will provide the best and most transparent service without any additional fees beyond the stipulated limits,” he said.

However, he continued, despite his transparent stance, he still regrets the media’s negative reporting of the Satpas Garut Polres. Furthermore, the news was broadcast without any prior confirmation to create a valuable news story that covers both sides.

“As journalists, we should understand the Journalistic Code of Ethics and the provisions of Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press,” he emphasized.

“If the news coverage violates all regulations, it’s natural for us to oppose it and question their integrity and capabilities as journalists. We partner closely with journalists. But we have to choose each journalist individually. Which is real and which is fake? That’s right, bro?” (Bembo)
