Despite TNI Denial, IPW Condemns Dozens of Crew-Cut Men Allegedly Interfering with Polda Metro Jaya

Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Despite the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI)’s official denial that dozens of crew-cut men wearing camouflage uniforms at the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters were not members of the military, Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) remains unmoved in its condemnation. IPW continues to condemn the alleged intervention by dozens of individuals suspected of being TNI members at the Polda Metro Jaya’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) building on Thursday morning, July 9, 2026.
The group allegedly arrived armed and led by two TNI officers with the rank of Brigadier General.
Their presence is also being accused of interfering with the investigation into an alleged corruption case.
IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso stated in an official statement, that the group allegedly attempted to forcibly seize witnesses and confiscated evidence worth a substantial amount related to the alleged corruption suspects.
“The arrival of these individuals, suspected to be members of the TNI, was reportedly intended to forcibly seize witnesses and evidence being questioned by the Polda Metro Jaya’s Ditreskrimsus after the discovery of a sum of cash in USD and SGD currency, as well as gold bars worth an equivalent of Rp541 billion, found at two locations searched: the de’Clan Restaurant in South Jakarta and a house in Sentul, Bogor,” Sugeng explained on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
He explained, that the two locations searched by police investigators are strongly suspected of belonging to a senior official within the Attorney General’s Office. The house being searched belongs to the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah.
Sugeng also believes the movements of the dozens of suspected military personnel were not based on official chains of command.

Dozens of people with short hair and camouflage clothing, suspected to be members of the TNI, came to Polda Metro Jaya on Thursday morning, July 9, 2026.
“Indonesia Police Watch suspects that these individuals acted without orders from official leadership. Instead, they appear to have been exploited by those currently irritated by the raids on several of their premises. They were exploited by, allegedly, senior officials at the Attorney General’s Office,” Sugeng emphasized.
Sugeng also warned that these individuals’ actions constitute a serious violation of the law.
These actions are also considered to have the potential to tarnish the TNI, which currently holds the top spot as the most trusted state institution by the public based on a survey.
“Furthermore, it should be emphasized that these actions constitute direct acts that can be categorized as obstruction of justice,” he said.
Furthermore, Sugeng also urged the TNI Commander and the TNI Military Police (POM TNI) to immediately take action against the high-ranking officers and soldiers involved in the incident at the Polda Metro Jaya.
“Therefore, Indonesia Police Watch urges the TNI Commander to discipline the units under his command and discipline the members of these units who are acting as these individuals to refrain from engaging in actions that could be considered unlawful and violate the TNI’s own code of ethics,” he emphasized.
