progresifjaya.co.id, BOGOR – The Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) Wind Tunnel at the Soemardhi Building in Cikeas, Bogor Regency, transformed into a global stage for air sports. A total of 382 participants across 156 teams took part in the 2026 Kapolri Cup II International Open Indoor Skydiving Championships, held from September 17 to 20, 2026.

The championship was opened on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by the Deputy Polri Chief, Komjen Pol Dedi Prasetyo, representing the Kapolri, Jenderal Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, in his capacity as the Patron of the Polri Sports Committee.

The Kapolri Cup II attracted more than just Indonesian athletes, 89 athletes and officials from nine countries participated, including China, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The international atmosphere was further enhanced by the presence of 20 international judges from 12 countries. When combining the countries of origin for the athletes, officials, and judges, a total of 20 nations were involved in the event.

The competition featured categories such as Formation Skydiving (FS), Vertical Formation Skydiving (VFS), Dynamic, and Freestyle.

In his remarks, the Deputy Polri Chief noted, that the development of indoor skydiving in Indonesia over the past few years has yielded impressive achievements.

During the 2024 FAI Indoor Skydiving series in Macau, Brimob athletes representing the Indonesian team secured silver and bronze medals at the Asian Championships and finished fifth at the FAI World Cup.

“These achievements demonstrate the tangible contribution of Polri athletes to Indonesia’s success in indoor skydiving at both the Asian and global levels,” said the Deputy Polri Chief.

This momentum continued into the 2024 Kapolri Cup I, where the Brimob Corps team and the Gegana Force Policewomen team achieved success in international-level categories. According to the Deputy Chief of the Polri, the Kapolri Cup II is expected to serve not merely as a competition, but also as a driving force for athlete development and the enhancement of Indonesia’s competitiveness in air sports.

“The Kapolri Cup II is expected to act as an accelerator for athlete development and the setting of new records, while also strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global air sports arena,” he stated.

The Deputy Chief also urged all athletes to uphold sportsmanship and mutual respect. He emphasized to the organizing committee and security personnel the importance of ensuring that all activities are conducted professionally, safely, in an orderly manner, and without incident.

Furthermore, he called upon all parties involved to maintain a spirit of collaboration.

“The success of the event is measured not only by the smooth running of the competition but also by our ability to use this occasion as momentum to strengthen development, expand networks, and elevate the quality of Indonesian air sports in the future,” the Deputy Chief explained.

Echoing these sentiments, the Chairman of the Indonesian Parachuting Committee, Irvan Zuladry, expressed appreciation for the Polri’s support in hosting this international championship.

According to Irvan, the growth of indoor skydiving requires expanded competitive opportunities to ensure consistent athlete development.

“The evolution of parachuting—including the indoor skydiving discipline—demonstrates that public interest and the competitive landscape need continued room to grow,” said Irvan.

He hopes the Kapolri Cup can contribute to establishing a regular and sustainable competition circuit within the Asian region.

“We hope the Kapolri Cup International Open Indoor Skydiving Championship will serve as a catalyst to elevate the sport and drive the achievement of the development targets we have outlined,” he added.

This international competition series will be followed by the 2nd FAI Asian Indoor Skydiving Championships in 2026.

The presence of the Polri Brimob Wind Tunnel in Cikeas is expected to significantly strengthen Indonesia’s indoor skydiving ecosystem, serving as a venue for training, athlete development, and international-standard competitions. (Bembo)
