progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The Traffic Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya (Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya) is intensifying efforts to prevent traffic violations, specifically wrong-way driving and the use of obscured license plates. These measures are being implemented simultaneously at several locations within the Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction known for high violation rates.

Kapolda Metro Jaya, Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri instructed the Director of Traffic to increase field presence and monitoring to prevent traffic violations and ensure public safety.

Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Director, Kombes Pol Firman Darmansyah subsequently directed his personnel to address this issue. This directive was acted upon by the Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate, AKBP M. Adiel Aristo, who implemented preventive and monitoring measures at identified hotspots.

Monitoring and prevention activities are being conducted across South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, West Jakarta, North Jakarta, and South Tangerang, as well as the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area. Officers have been deployed to various locations to issue reminders, provide education, and ensure road users adhere to traffic regulations and designated traffic flow directions.

These efforts are a response to public complaints regarding the prevalence of motorists driving against the flow of traffic. Such behavior not only disrupts traffic flow but also increases the risk of vehicle collisions, as wrong-way drivers confront road users traveling in the correct direction.

This risk is reflected in traffic accident data related to wrong-way driving over the past five years. Data from the 2022–2026 period records 341 casualties resulting from wrong-way driving accidents. Of these, 24 people died, 34 sustained serious injuries, and 283 suffered minor injuries. In 2022, there were 78 recorded casualties, comprising 9 fatalities, 8 serious injuries, and 61 minor injuries. In 2023, there were 84 casualties, consisting of 6 fatalities, 15 serious injuries, and 63 minor injuries. Subsequently, in 2024, 68 casualties were recorded, including 7 fatalities, 3 serious injuries, and 58 minor injuries.

Meanwhile, in 2025, there were 83 casualties, comprising 2 fatalities, 5 serious injuries, and 76 minor injuries. Based on data for 2026 to date, there have been 28 casualties, consisting of 3 serious injuries and 25 minor injuries.

These data indicate that driving against the flow of traffic is not merely a matter of violating traffic rules and directional regulations.

Over a period of approximately five years, accidents involving driving against the flow of traffic have resulted in hundreds of casualties, including dozens of fatalities. This situation is a matter of serious concern because the risks associated with this behavior threaten not only the offending motorists but also other road users.

Consequently, the enforcement efforts by the Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya are not solely focused on punitive action. The presence of officers at high-risk locations is also aimed at preventing accidents and minimizing the risk of casualties through education, public advisories, traffic management, and direct supervision.

In addition to addressing the issue of driving against the flow of traffic, officers also monitor vehicles with obscured or illegible license plates. Supervision is carried out using various methods, including handheld Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) devices, alongside other police measures tailored to conditions on the ground.

These activities are part of the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate’s efforts to build public awareness through officer presence, education, and direct supervision. Any violations detected serve as a basis for evaluation to determine preventive measures tailored to the specific characteristics and conditions of each location.

Through this initiative, the Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate hopes the public will better understand that adhering to traffic flow and regulations is crucial for collective safety.

Driving against the flow of traffic is not a shortcut worth the risk. Any time potentially saved does not justify the risk of accidents, injuries, or even loss of life.
