progresifjaya.co.id, CIREBON CITY – Two recidivists from Indramayu Regency, suspected of committing motor vehicle theft, have been apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Polres Cirebon City. In carrying out their crimes, the two suspects—identified by the initials S and A—consistently used a T-shaped key (a common tool used by thieves to bypass ignition locks) to steal vehicles.

This was announced by the Kapolres Cirebon City, AKBP Bimantoro Setiawan, during a press conference on Friday, October 16, 2026. Kapolres Bimantoro was accompanied by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Fadillah.

“These individuals allegedly took advantage of the late night to early morning hours, when the environment was relatively quiet. They targeted motorcycles parked outside homes or in yards without adequate supervision,” said Kapolres Bimantoro.

“Based on initial statements, more than two vehicles were stolen. The police are continuing the investigation to uncover other potential crime scenes and determine if any additional perpetrators were involved,” he added.

According to the investigation, Kapolres Bimantoro explained, the stolen motorcycles were allegedly taken to a location in the Indramayu area. There, the vehicle identification numbers (VIN) and engine numbers were tampered with—specifically, restamped or altered—to hinder identification.

“Furthermore, if a GPS device was present on a vehicle, it was reportedly damaged or removed. The stolen motorcycles were then intended to be resold for profit,” he stated.

During the arrest, Kapolred Bimantoro noted, that one of the suspects acted defiantly and attempted to resist, forcing officers to shoot him.

“For their actions, both suspects are charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with aggravating circumstances, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison,” Kapolres Bimantoro clarified.

Elaborating further, Kapolres Bimantoro urged the public to exercise greater caution when parking their vehicles, especially at night. Using additional security locks and choosing safe parking locations are essential measures to prevent theft.

“Members of the public who witness or fall victim to a crime are encouraged to report it immediately via the Polri Call Center at 110, so that officers can take appropriate action,” he added. (Bembo)
