progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The Polda Metro Jaya continues to investigate the brutal collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and the Commuter Line Commuter Line train, which was stopped at East Bekasi Station. Previously reported as having 15 fatalities, the death toll has now risen by one, bringing the total to 16.

This news was conveyed directly by the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto. He also expressed his deep condolences for the increase in fatalities in this incident. He also confirmed that the investigation and inquiry process is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

“First, we express our deepest condolences to all the victims, including the additional fatality. This concerns us all. Investigators are currently focused on comprehensively investigating the sequence of events,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi in a statement on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Based on preliminary data as of 11:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the total number of victims has reached 106. Ninety people were injured, with 44 having been discharged and 46 still receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the death toll stands at 16, with one additional victim being released from Bekasi City Hospital.

“We hope there will be no further fatalities,” he said.

Regarding the suspected cause, Kombes Pol Bhudi continued, the police are still investigating the possibility of human error and a communication system disruption in railway operations.

In addition, questioning of the online taxi driver Green SM and the train driver is also scheduled to clarify the chronology and responsibility for the incident.

As a follow-up measure, the Polda Metro Jaya will also provide medical and psychological assistance to the victims and their families. Furthermore, the public is urged not to disseminate sensitive content related to the victims to maintain empathy.

“We urge the public to be careful when crossing railroad crossings and always give priority to trains. Furthermore, do not share photos or videos of the victims, as this could have a psychological impact on the families,” Kombes Pol Bhudi emphasized.

As a reminder, this collision occurred on Monday evening, April 27, 2026. The Argo Bromo Anggrek train, traveling to Pasar Turi, Surabaya, was traveling at 110 kilometers per hour and collided head-on with the rear women’s carriage of the Commuter Line KRL that was stalled on track 1 at East Bekasi Station. The train’s high speed is strongly suspected to have been a contributing factor to the impact of the collision.

The disturbance originated at the scene of the collision at an unmanned level crossing involving a Green SM electric taxi.

The vehicle experienced a short circuit and was hit by Commuter Line 5181 traveling from Cikarang to Jakarta. As a result, other Commuter Line trains were delayed at East Bekasi Station.

Unfortunately, information about this emergency situation was allegedly not fully conveyed to the Argo Bromo Anggrek train, which was speeding from behind. Consequently, it crashed. The women’s carriage at the rear of the Commuter Line train, which had stopped, was also crushed by the collision.
