progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – According to the regulations, an expired driver’s license (SIM) even if it’s only one day late must be renewed. This rule is clearly stated in Article 4 paragraph (3) of Police Regulation (Perpol) Number 5 of 2021 concerning the Issuance and Marking of SIM.

Every SIM is valid for five years. Therefore, you must renew it before the expiration date. Don’t delay the renewal. If you do, you’ll be forced to apply for a new one. You’ll have to follow the procedures for renewing your SIM from the beginning.

“If a SIM has expired as referred to in paragraphs (1) and (2), a new driver’s license must be issued,” the regulation states.

The Traffic Corps’ Digital Instagram page also confirms this. It states that an expired driver’s license cannot be renewed, either online or offline, even if it’s only one day late.

“A SIM that has expired cannot be renewed, even if it’s only been one day. This means you must apply for a new one at the nearest SIM administration unit (SATPAS). Renew your SIM before the expiration date to avoid having to renew it,” he explained.

It’s also important to remember that SIM validity is no longer based on your birth date, but on the date of issuance. So, for example, if you were born on June 5th and applied for your SIM on June 3rd, 2026, your SIM will be valid until June 3rd, 2031.

There are several fees to renew your SIM. The latest SIM renewal fee hasn’t changed. Here’s a breakdown of SIM renewal fees.

SIM Renewal Fee

Specifically, for SIM renewals, the maximum fee per issue is Rp80.000 for SIM A, SIM B I, and SIM B II.  The following are the costs for issuing a driver’s license renewal:

SIM A, SIM B I, SIM B II: Rp80.000 per issuance

SIM C, SIM C I, and SIM C II: Rp75.000 per issuance

SIM D, SIM D I: Rp30.000 per issuance

There are also other fees:

SIM Health Examination: Rp35.000

Driver’s Personal Accident Insurance (AKDP) Payment: Rp50.000

SIM Psychological Test Payment: Rp100.000 (at the SIM renewal location) or Rp77.500 (online on the ePPsi website).

In total, the cost of renewing a SIM A with a psychological test is Rp100.000, which is Rp265.000, and a SIM C with a psychological test is Ro260.000. However, if the renewal uses an online psychological test at Rp77.500, the total cost for renewing a SIM A is Rp242.500 and a SIM C with a psychological test is Rp237.500.
