This statement was made by the Director of General Crimes (Dirtipidum) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigjen Pol Wira Satya Triputra to reporters.
“We caught the 321 foreign nationals red-handed. This means they were carrying out online gambling operations or activities,” said Brigjen Pol Wira.
He detailed that the majority of the 321 WNA, 228 of whom are from Vietnam. Followed by 57 people from China, 13 from Myanmar, 11 from Laos, 5 from Thailand, and 3 each from Malaysia and Cambodia.
Brigjen Pol Wira stated, that they conducted this illegal business in a structured manner, utilizing cross-border electronic means. The perpetrators entered Indonesia not to work legally, but using tourist permits and overstaying their visas.
“They all used tourist permits, none of them were working. They were also overstaying,” said Brigjen Pol Wira.
He continued, explaining that the 321 WNA were being handed over to immigration to process administrative immigration sanctions. This firm measure is also part of the government’s commitment to eradicating international drug trafficking networks attempting to relocate their operational bases to Indonesian jurisdiction.
“During this activity, we are also conducting a joint operation with the Ministry of Immigration to investigate whether there are other crimes that we will later prove,” he explained.
Furthermore, Brigjen Pol Wira also confirmed, that they will investigate the sponsors who brought the perpetrators from abroad to Indonesia. He also assured that he would continue his efforts to dismantle the network that remains unsolved.
“We will investigate the sponsors who brought them in from abroad,” he emphasized.
He also emphasized, that although the 321 WNA involved in the gambling have been arrested, his team will continue to hunt down the gambling boss in Hayam Wuruk, whose status is currently unknown. The whereabouts of the ‘ghost’ boss leading the gambling syndicate have so far remained undetected.
“We remain committed to carrying out the investigation to the very top. Those currently arrested are still coordinators of their respective activities, or their roles within these perpetrators,” explained Brigjen Pol Wira.
