The Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Directorate held a press conference to uncover 127 street crime cases, resulting in the bagged and tagged of 173 perpetrators.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum), along with the police precincts, have uncovered 127 police reports related to street crime between May 1 and 22, 2026. Of these, 173 perpetrators were bagged and tagged.

This report was delivered directly by the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imannudin, during a press conference in the lobby of the Polda Metro Jaya Promotor Building on Friday, May 22, 2026.

“The Polda Metro Jaya along with the police precincts, have uncovered 127 police reports of street crime, with 173 suspects. Of these, 38 suspects are being handled by the Polda Metro Jaya  and 135 suspects by the police precincts,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

He explained, that the 127 cases solved included aggravated theft (curat), theft with violence (curas), and motor vehicle theft (curanmor), or the 3Cs. These street crimes are a serious concern because they directly impact the public’s sense of security.

The 127 cases, continued Kombes Pol Iman, stemmed from public reports and some stemmed from viral videos on social media. This information was then followed up by processing the crime scene (TKP), questioning witnesses, analyzing CCTV footage, and gathering evidence.

“Several cases we solved stemmed from videos that went viral on social media. This information helped us in the identification, investigation, and eventual arrest of the perpetrators,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

In these cases, the police also secured a number of pieces of evidence, including two-wheeled vehicles, four-wheeled vehicles, laptops, firearms, T-locks, CCTV footage, clothing, dozens of sharp weapons, and eight firearms.

In addition to taking action, the Polda Metro Jaya is also strengthening preventative measures by conducting large-scale patrols in vulnerable areas.  They also conducted training for neighborhood security posts (poskamling) and utilized CCTV networks to help solve cases.

The perpetrators of the crime were successfully bagged and tagged along with evidence of sharp weapons and firearms that were confiscated.

Currently, more than 24.000 CCTV points have been integrated across Jakarta and the Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction.

This CCTV presence is considered beneficial in helping the police expedite the investigation process when crimes occur.

“We continue to carry out preventive measures through regular large-scale patrols in vulnerable areas. We also conduct training for 150 poskamling (community security posts) to strengthen neighborhood security,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermantoin his statement also expressed his appreciation for the role of residents in providing information to the police.

According to him, prompt reports from residents are crucial in the handling and dissemination of street crime cases, including theft, robbery, and motorcycle theft.

“We express our gratitude to the public for providing information. The public’s role is very helpful to the police in handling and disseminating cases,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi.

He also emphasized, that the disclosure of 127 street crime cases demonstrates the Polda Metro Jaya commitment to providing a sense of security to the public.

He also ensured, that every action taken is carried out in accordance with legal procedures, guided by the principles of legality, proportionality, and necessity.

“This action serves as a message to perpetrators of criminal acts and those intending to commit crimes. If the public knows or experiences a crime, immediately report it to the nearest police station or through the 110 service,” Kombes Pol Bhudi reminded.

He also emphasized, that the Polri will continue to be present among the community to provide protection, services, and maintain environmental security.

“The Polri will continue to be present as protectors, guardians, and servants of the community. We also carry out our duties as guardians of life, builders of civilization, and champions of prosperity,” he reiterated.
