progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – All political party factions in the House of Representatives (DPR) have confirmed their readiness to continue discussions on the revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. This was conveyed by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, after a meeting with the leadership of Commission III of the DPR.
He explained, that during the meeting, Commission III of the DPR, which oversees government and election affairs, stated its readiness to resume discussions on the previously postponed revisions to the Election Law.
“All parties in Commission III are ready to resume discussing changes, both the academic text and draft articles,” said Sufmi Dasco at the DPR/MPR Complex, Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Commission III of the DPR, as the legislative body discussing the revisions to the Election Law, continued Sufmi Dasco, and will also open up space for public participation to gather various input. Public participation is crucial in the law-making process.
According to Sufmi Dasco, the deliberation process must be conducted with caution. This is to ensure that the resulting legislation is not challenged in the Constitutional Court.
“There is no need to doubt the House of Representatives’ readiness to revise the Election Law. As previously stated, we will also make this revision a DPR initiative proposal,” he said.
However, regarding the target timeframe for completing the revision deliberations, Sufmi Dasco admitted he could not yet provide details.
Previously, Commission III of the DPR is known to have held meetings with several experts to gather input related to elections. The last discussion on the Election Law revisions took place on March 10, 2026.
On April 13, 2026, Commission III was scheduled to resume deliberations by hearing the results of the House Expertise Body’s study. However, the meeting was postponed.
House Commission III member Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung also confirmed the agenda at the time. However, he admitted he did not know the detailed reasons for the postponement.
Sufmi Dasco himself previously explained that the DPR leadership had requested the House Expertise Body (BKD) conduct a study regarding the revision of the Election Law. However, the results of the study had not yet been presented to the leadership because they were deemed not to comply with regulations.
Therefore, he requested that the meeting be postponed so that the BKD could first present the results of its study to the leadership in accordance with regulations.
