One Month into Irjen Pol Wibowo’s Leadership of the Polri Traffic Corps, Traffic Accident Fatalities Drop Significantly by 22.92 Percent

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – National traffic safety performance has shown an increasingly positive trend during the first month of leadership under the Head of the Polri Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), Irjen Pol Wibowo.

Data on traffic accidents throughout July 2026 recorded a significant decline in the number of fatalities. There was a 22.92 percent drop—a reduction of 441 lives—compared to June 2026.

This achievement was revealed through the analysis and evaluation (Anev) conducted by the Traffic Accident Sub-directorate (Subdit Laka) of the Law Enforcement Directorate (Ditgakkum) of the Polri Traffic Corps, based on data from the Integrated Road Safety Management System (IRSMS).

The Head of the Traffic Accident Sub-directorate, Kombes Pol Mariochristy PS Siregar stated, that the analysis was carried out under the direction of the Director of Law Enforcement (Dirgakkum) of the Polri Traffic Corps, Brigjen Pol I Made Agus Prasatya. The aim was to assess the traffic accident situation during July 2026 and to establish a foundation for formulating future strategic measures.

“The analysis results indicate an improvement in the quality of traffic safety management. Most notably, there was a 22,92 percent decrease in the number of fatalities—441 fewer people—compared to the previous month,” said Kombes Pol Mario.

In addition to the drop in fatalities, the total number of traffic accidents also declined, albeit slightly. Throughout July 2026, there was a decrease of 27 cases, or 0,17 percent, compared to June 2026.

However, the evaluation also revealed an increase in the number of people sustaining serious injuries, rising by 218 individuals, or 11,05 percent.

This situation is clearly a matter of concern for the Polri Traffic Corps, prompting efforts to strengthen prevention measures while minimizing fatal outcomes in traffic accidents. Based on IRSMS data from July 2026, the five regions with the highest accident rates remain dominated by Regional Police (Polda) jurisdictions on the island of Java. The Polda of Central Java ranked first with 3.300 incidents, followed by the Polda of East Java (3.017 incidents), Polda Metro Jaya (1.572 incidents), Polda of West Java (886 incidents), and Polda of South Sulawesi (872 incidents).

Although several regions continue to record high accident figures, the Korlantas Polri emphasizes that the primary indicator of success in traffic safety is the ability to reduce the number of fatalities.

The decline in fatalities during July 2026 is viewed as a sign that law enforcement efforts, public education, and strengthened road safety management are beginning to yield tangible results.

Korlantas Polri also ensures that analysis and evaluation will continue to be conducted periodically, serving as a foundation for data-driven policy formulation aimed at improving traffic safety, curbing accident rates, and reducing fatalities across Indonesia.

The Head of Korlantas Polri, Irjen Pol Wibowo, also consistently reminds his personnel to make public service and safety their top priority.

“Every traffic police officer is the public face of the Polri. Every act of service is an honor. Every instance of law enforcement is a reflection of justice. And every proactive, intuitive step we take today is a tangible investment in safeguarding the future of Indonesia’s Golden Generation,” stated Irjen Pol Wibowo.
