House Commission III Supports Polri Commitment to Uncover Masterminds Behind Forest and Land Fires

Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) supports the Polri’s commitment to uncovering the masterminds behind forest and land fires in Sumatera and Kalimantan.
Enforcement actions must not stop at the perpetrators on the ground; they must also target the parties who control the operations and profit from land-burning practices.
Habiburokhman, Chairman of House Commission III explained, that those caught on the ground often act merely as laborers or individuals following orders, while the corporations or financiers behind the activities frequently evade legal consequences.
Therefore, he believes a follow the money approach must be seriously applied to uncover the flow of profits and trace the intellectual authors behind the fires.
“This follow the money approach and firm, impartial enforcement align with the agenda for fair law enforcement reform,” said Habiburokhman in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, August 25, 2026.
According to him, handling forest and land fires requires addressing the root of the problem. Parties reaping financial gains from the burned land must also be held accountable, ensuring that law enforcement creates a deterrent effect that extends beyond just the field-level perpetrators.
In addition to supporting enforcement measures, Habiburokhman commended the preventive efforts undertaken by the Polri. These include the construction of 1.296 small reservoirs (embung) and 834 canal blocks in areas deemed prone to forest and land fires.
He stated, that the construction of this infrastructure demonstrates the Polri’s seriousness in carrying out President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for all ranks to take maximum action in preventing and managing forest and land fires.
“The construction of this infrastructure is a tangible manifestation of Precision work, with benefits directly felt in mitigating the annual haze disaster,” he said.
Habiburokhman also emphasized that Commission III of the DPR RI will continue to oversee the Polri’s efforts to address forest and land fires, encompassing both law enforcement against parties that damage the environment and the implementation of sustainable mitigation measures.
He stated, that these efforts are crucial for promptly protecting the public from the threat of disasters while simultaneously preserving the ecosystem. (Bembo)
