As reported on social media and in national news outlets last week, Masinton Pasaribu faced challenges from political parties within the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) regarding general budget management—specifically concerning disaster relief aid for affected residents in Central Tapanuli.

Calls for a vote of no confidence and even impeachment proceedings against Masinton Pasaribu had begun to surface. The national figure—who had returned home to develop his birthplace—found himself deemed a failure and mistrusted by political elites and a segment of the local population who were protesting against him.

Amidst this crisis, Masinton Pasaribu revealed that he received a phone call from Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Sufmi Dasco assured him that the impeachment attempt would not succeed—a prediction that proved accurate. The Gerindra Party, which had initially joined the alliance pushing for the protest, promptly withdrew its support.

Masinton noted, that his interaction with Sufmi Dasco went beyond a mere phone call, he regards Sufmi Dasco as an older brother. He also mentioned receiving support from Sufmi Dasco during the previous regional election, although he did not specify the exact nature of that support.

Sufmi Dasco Ahmad is truly remarkable. His political mentorship extends beyond the national level, he is willing to step in personally at the regional level whenever the situation demands it.

Frankly, it is increasingly rare to see a politician from one party offer concrete assistance to a politician from another—as seen in the case of Masinton Pasaribu (a PDIP member) and Sufmi Dasco Ahmad (a Gerindra member).
