Head of Public Relations for the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — In anticipation of Youth Pledge Day on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the Polda Metro Jaya are calling on all members of society to work together to keep public spaces safe, orderly, and comfortable. This appeal comes in light of planned demonstrations, highlighting the importance of balancing the right to freedom of expression with the safety and smooth functioning of daily public life.

Head of Public Relations for the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated, that public spaces are shared facilities that must be preserved and used responsibly. While the police fully respect the right to express opinions—a right guaranteed by law—they also have a duty to provide service and protection to all citizens.

“Public spaces belong to us all. On one hand, there are those expressing their aspirations, while on the other, there are people working, attending school, or going about their daily routines. Everyone has rights that must be respected. Therefore, the police and the public need to look out for one another so that all activities can proceed safely and in an orderly manner,” explained Kombes Pol Bhudi in his statement on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

He added, that when overseeing demonstrations, the police consistently prioritize communication, dialogue, and a persuasive, humanistic approach. The safety of both the protesters and the general public remains the top priority, alongside efforts to secure public facilities and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Consequently, the Polda Metro Jaya urge all parties to refrain from violence and to avoid being easily provoked by information of unverified origin. The public is also encouraged to exercise wisdom when receiving and sharing information.

The momentum of Youth Pledge Day serves as a collective reminder of the vital importance of unity, mutual respect, and the shared responsibility to safeguard the common interest.

Guided by the spirit of “Police Alongside the Community,” the Polda Metro Jaya remains committed to providing a humanistic approach to service while upholding the fundamental human rights of all citizens. This aligns with the ethos of Working to Serve Jakarta. (Bembo)
