progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) Violent Crimes (Jatanras) Sub-Directorate has successfully uncovered a buzzer syndicate creating fake news or hoaxes via social media. Six perpetrators have been arrested and named suspects. Two more suspects are being pursued.

The Director of the Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin stated in a statement, that the case stemmed from a legal incident reported to the Polda Metro Jaya. A series of inquiries and investigations were then conducted into the organized digital propaganda syndicate that published hoaxes, slander, and provocation.

According to investigators’ findings, content containing hoaxes, slander, provocation, electronic data manipulation, illegal access, and misuse of personal data had circulated on social media. Kombes Pol Iman stated, that the spread of hoax content is used to “degrade the dignity and honor of individuals” and can even cause damage to public facilities.

“Unlawful acts committed on social media have disrupted social, economic, and political stability, as well as the security and public order situation,” he said on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The content was disseminated on various social media platforms, including X, Threads, Instagram, and Facebook. The hoax content has been circulating since 2024.

Investigators from the Sub-Directorate of Jatanras at the Polda Metro Jaya have now elevated the case investigation status to the investigation stage. Investigators have arrested six suspects and are currently searching for two others.

The suspects in this syndicate are suspected of playing various roles. Some handle recruitment and financing, create content, distribute content, help promote content (often referred to as “boosters”), and distribute content massively (or “blasting”).

The six suspects who have been arrested are identified as ADIK, BCK, AYV, YAP, and YNI. ADIK was responsible for sending narratives and providing direction for content creation, AYV managed the social media accounts, YAP and MMA were content editors, and YNI handled social media comments.

“We are currently detaining these six suspects at the Polda Metro Jaya detention center,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

Meanwhile, two other suspects who have been named but have not yet been arrested are G and S. Suspect G was involved in offering projects or services via social media, while S served as the syndicate’s graphic designer.

The perpetrators of this syndicate are being charged under Article 32 in conjunction with Article 48 of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Transactions (ITE Law). The penalty is a maximum of eight years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp 2 billion.

During the operation, investigators also seized evidence including 11 mobile phones, two laptops, an iPad, and two flash drives containing the social media content in question. They also confiscated Rp220 million in cash.

“The money was used as payment for the illegal activities carried out through social media,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

Investigators are currently investigating the identity of the person who ordered the content. They are also conducting further investigations into the main customer.

Kombes Pol Iman added, that if the perpetrators are proven to have received the orders through a government agency or institution, they risk being charged under Article 603 of the Corruption Law. The penalty is a minimum of two years and a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment, with a minimum Category II and a maximum Category VI fine.

However, when asked what content the suspects allegedly distributed, Kombes Pol Iman declined to comment.

“I think that’s part of the substance of the investigation, so we’re still investigating further,” he concluded.
