progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Parliamentary Journalists Coordinator (KWP) has issued a firm statement to report the incident involving a member of parliament denigrating the journalist profession to the House Ethics Council (MKD) for immediate action according to the applicable procedures.

The incident occurred at the Nusantara Building (Kura-Kura Building), directly in front of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission II Room. While covering a Commission II meeting, a member of the DPR RI from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction, Dedi Sitorus, made a statement denigrating the journalist profession, calling “journalists like a circus” or “a circus gang.”

“We consider this statement insulting and demeaning to journalists carrying out their duties. It has also damaged the good relationship between the legislative body and the press, whose role is to maintain transparency and democracy,” stated Deputy Chairperson for Administration KWP,
Erwin Syahputra Siregar, on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

He also stated, that this ridiculous statement is completely inconsistent with the ethics and honor of the DPR RI as a state institution that should respect other professions. Journalists in parliament feel demeaned and insulted as a result.

“We demand clarification and a public apology within 24 hours from the reported party to maintain the honor of the DPR RI and good relations with the press. We also urge all DPR RI members to always respect the profession of journalism as a strategic partner in maintaining the transparency of public information,” Erwin emphasized.

Regarding this incident, the KWP hopes that the MKD will immediately and seriously process the report. This must be emphasized to prevent a similar incident from happening again and to maintain the dignity of the DPR RI.
