98 Activists Sharply Criticize Differences in Information from the Polri and the TNI Handling the Acid Attack Case on KontraS Activists

Ubedilah Badrun, a socio-political analyst from Jakarta State University (UNJ) and 98 activist.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Metro Jaya have identified two perpetrators of the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator, Andrie Yunus. The two are identified by their initials BHC and MAK. The perpetrators were identified from CCTV footage, which was then analyzed through the Polri’s database.
However, the TNI’s Military Police (Puspom TNI) has a different perspective. The information provided by the Puspom TNI)states that four suspects have been apprehended. The four suspects are active members of the TNI Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) Denma unit. The four suspects in question have the initials Kapten NDP, Lettu SL, Lettu BHW, and Serda ES.
Based on these two different pieces of information, the Polda Metro Jaya have also detailed that the perpetrators of the acid attack may have involved more than four people.
“The perpetrators, who we circled in red, turned around and then passed each other and waited. Their initials are BHC and MAK. The green one is the victim when the liquid was thrown. The yellow one is the second motorcycle ridden by the suspect, also part of the perpetrator’s network, the perpetrator’s group,” explained the Director of Criminal Investigation at the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Aminuddin, while showing CCTV footage to the media at the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
Kombes Pol Iman also stated, that his team is still analyzing scientific crime investigation evidence to thoroughly investigate this case.
“And based on the results of our investigation, we cannot rule out the possibility that there could be more than four perpetrators,” he said.
Speaking further, Kombes Pol Iman didn’t address the discrepancy in the suspect’s initials announced in this case. He only stated that his department had opened a complaint hotline at 110 and 081285599191 regarding this case. He also appealed to the public with information about the perpetrator to contact these hotlines.
“On this occasion, we would also like to inform our media partners about the services we have opened: the complaint hotline at 110 and 081285599191. We are opening this service to the public to provide or submit information regarding those who know or recognize the image of the perpetrator we just provided. The information provided will strengthen our testimony,” Kombes Pol Iman explained again.
Discrepancies Sharply Criticized
The discrepancy in information between the Polri and the TNI in handling this case has drawn sharp criticism from Ubedilah Badrun, a socio-political analyst from Jakarta State University (UNJ) and a 98 activist. He took serious issue with the discrepancy in the initials of the perpetrators’ names communicated to the public by the Polri and the Puspom TNI.
According to him, the lack of synchronization of data between the two state institutions is a paradox that indicates a serious problem at the highest level.
“Yesterday, we heard a press conference where, paradoxically, the initials from the police were different from the names from Puspom TNI. This paradox actually indicates something is amiss within the power elite,” Ubedilah said in a discussion held in Menteng, Jakarta, on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
In his analysis, the discrepancy in information reflects not only technical issues but also a breakdown in inter-institutional communication, leading to a breakdown in relations at the elite level.
“This means there was no coordination, no communication, and so on. It’s that simple. So, there was actually tension within the elite in the final days after the incident occurred,” he criticized.
He also deeply regretted the continued persistence of this elite-level feud. Because in Indonesian political history, it’s the people who are always the victims when those in power are not in harmony.
“What’s worse in this republic is when the elites clash, the people are the ones who are sacrificed. This is chaotic, terrible,” he said.
The credibility of law enforcement in the Andrie Yunus case, Ubedilah stated, is actually at its lowest point. The public is currently hesitant to trust the ongoing legal process.
“Our legal position in enforcing this case is wavering between hope and anxiety. Between doubt and the opportunity to demand that they resolve this issue, including the intellectual perpetrators. This is a true incident that must be fairly acknowledged by all parties,” he emphasized, continuing his criticism. (Bembo)
