DPR RI Commission V Highlights Incident of Argo Bromo Anggrek Collision with Commuter Line Train at East Bekasi Station

Tragedy of the long-distance train accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line at East Bekasi Station.
progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The train collision involving a Commuter Line train and the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train at East Bekasi Station has drawn serious and sharp attention. One such incident has come from House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission V.
Deputy Chairman of DPR RI Commission V, Syaiful Huda, openly questioned the root cause of the incident. Was it caused by a technical signaling issue or human error?
According to him, after the train was involved in the incident with the “green taxi,” the other train should have been able to stop its journey systematically, instead of crashing into the stopped train.
“The question now is, why didn’t the Argo Bromo Anggrek train stop its journey?” Syaiful said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
He stated, that this incident is extremely concerning because long-distance and commuter trains have become the backbone of public transportation.
Furthermore, Syaiful continued, the state has also invested heavily in developing infrastructure, signaling technology, and operational procedures for train travel.
However, he continued, Commission V of the DPR RI is still awaiting and respecting the official investigation from the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) regarding the cause of the incident.
If the KNKT investigation reveals that the Argo Bromo Anggrek driver felt pressured by time constraints, then the time management must be immediately revised to prevent excessive pressure on the driver to the point of neglecting safety.
Meanwhile, if the investigation reveals a signaling issue, immediately implement a signaling revolution to ensure precision. Likewise, if the investigation reveals an unguarded level crossing as the trigger, then fundamental improvements to the infrastructure must be made immediately.
According to Syaiful, the tragedy of the Argo Bromo Anggrek and Commuter Line accidents should be a turning point for PT KAI to formulate better safety standards going forward.
Furthermore, he also assessed, that public compliance with prioritizing train travel is still relatively low. Many people still recklessly push through barriers at level crossings even though there’s a signal for a train to pass.
“This is also what might have happened at the JPL 85 crossing, where a ‘green taxi’ dared to cross and broke down in the middle of the tracks, causing it to be hit by KRL 5181,” said the legislator from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction in his analysis.
Syaiful also stated, that train accidents do occur in developed countries, although they are rare. However, this has actually sparked a revolution in safety standards to reduce the potential for future accidents. Learn the hard way to be better.
