progresifjaya.co.id, GARUT – The Polres of Garut have successfully apprehended a suspect identified by the initials AP (41), a resident of Garut Kota District. AP was arrested on suspicion of committing aggravated theft—specifically the burglary of an unoccupied home—at the Guntur Residence housing complex in Sukamentri Village, Garut Kota District, Garut Regency.

Details regarding AP’s arrest were announced directly by the Kapolres of Garut, AKBP Niko N. Adi Putra, during a press conference held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Investigations revealed that the suspect appeared to have meticulously planned the crime. He entered the housing complex on a motorcycle, wearing a green-and-black online motorcycle taxi jacket bearing the Grab logo to disguise his appearance. He was also found to be carrying 11 door keys of various brands and shapes, believed to have been specifically prepared to unlock the doors of target homes.

Upon arriving at the location, the suspect scouted the area for a house that appeared to be unoccupied. After selecting a target, he observed the surroundings to ensure no one was watching. Once he deemed the situation safe, he used the keys he carried to successfully unlock the victim’s door. Inside, he stole several of the victim’s belongings before fleeing the scene.

The stolen items included a 43-inch Xiaomi television, a 3-kilogram LPG gas cylinder, approximately 5 kilograms of rice, about 10 packs of instant noodles, and a pink bed cover featuring the character Kuromi. The victim’s financial loss is estimated to reach Rp4 million.

“Based on the sequence of events we have uncovered, the perpetrator entered the residential area looking for a house that appeared to be unoccupied. He then surveyed the surroundings before using a key he had brought with him to open the door and steal the victim’s belongings,” explained Kapolres Niko N. Adi Putra.

During the search, investigators successfully seized several pieces of evidence, including a door handle set with its key, a Honda Vario Techno 125 motorcycle, an online motorcycle taxi jacket (branded Grab), a helmet, eleven door keys of various shapes, and a pink bed cover featuring the character Kuromi.

For his actions, AP has been charged under Article 477 paragraph (1) letter f of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.

Kapolres Niko N. Adi Putra also urged the public to remain vigilant and strengthen security in their respective neighborhoods. Residents should ensure that doors and windows are securely locked and entrust the monitoring of their homes to neighbors or security personnel whenever the house is left unattended. The public is also asked to immediately report any suspicious activities or individuals in their area to the police via the 110 Call Center.

“We encourage the community to be more attentive to neighborhood security, to report suspicious activities immediately, and to deny criminals the opportunity to carry out their crimes,” said Kapolres Niko N. Adi Putra. (Bembo)
