Developments in the Bendungan Hilir Human Trafficking Case, Police Name 3 Suspects

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polda Metro Jaya through the Polres Metro of Central Jakarta, have provided an update regarding the handling of the alleged child exploitation, deprivation of liberty, and human trafficking (TPPO) case that occurred in the Bendungan Hilir area of ​​Tanah Abang. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, resulted in the death of a child identified as D, and one witness, identified as R, is still receiving medical treatment.

The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated in his statement, that after a series of in-depth investigations, the police have named three individuals as suspects. These individuals are identified as AV, T alias U, and WA alias Y. All three are currently detained in the Polres Metro of Central Jakarta detention cell.

“Investigators are moving professionally and swiftly. Suspects T and WA have been detained since April 29, 2026, while suspect AV was detained today, May 5, 2026. The detentions are for further investigation,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto in a statement on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Based on the investigation, suspect AV allegedly employed victim D from November 2025 to April 2026. Meanwhile, suspects T and WA played a role in the victim’s recruitment process as a domestic worker.

To strengthen the legal framework, investigators have secured various pieces of important evidence, including the victim’s documents, electronic devices, CCTV recordings, and the results of the post-mortem examination and autopsy.

The police have also coordinated with the Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P3A) and the LPSK (Lembaga Witness and Victim Protection Agency) to provide assistance and maximum protection for the victim-witness.

“We ensure that this case is handled transparently and thoroughly. The suspects are charged under Article 446 of the Criminal Code, Article 455 of the Criminal Code, and Article 76I in conjunction with Article 88 of the Child Protection Law,” stated Kombes Pol Bhudi.

In closing, the Polda Metro Jaya also urged the public to be more vigilant and selective when recruiting workers, especially ensuring that no minors are involved, as this constitutes a violation of the law.

The police also urged residents to immediately report to the nearest police station or through the 110 Call Center if they encounter practices that lead to human exploitation or human trafficking in their neighborhoods to maintain a conducive public order and security situation.
