The Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate held a press conference to reveal 141 motorcycle theft cases in the past month.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – In the past month, the Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) successfully uncovered 141 motor vehicle theft cases and arrested 317 motorcycle theft suspects. A total of 156 vehicles were also confiscated.

The Director of the Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Directorate, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin stated in an official statement, that the uncovering of these 141 motorcycle theft cases was the result of collaboration between the Polda Metro Jaya’s Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Resort Police (Polres). The hundreds of motorcycle theft cases uncovered were a mix of common theft, aggravated theft, and theft with violence.

“In uncovering these hundreds of cases, our investigators have successfully arrested 317 motorcycle theft suspects. The evidence seized from the suspects’ crimes totaled 156 vehicles, consisting of 141 motorcycles and 15 four-wheeled vehicles,” said Kombes Pol Iman during a press conference on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The Polda Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Directorate successfully returned 26 stolen vehicles to their owners based on valid proof of vehicle ownership.

He also explained, that 26 vehicles have now been returned to the victims. The 26 vehicles, consisting of 22 motorcycles and 4 cars, were given based on valid proof of vehicle ownership.

“Today, we simultaneously handed over the 26 two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles to the victims. We returned them to their rightful owners based on the proof of ownership held by the victims. These comprise 22 two-wheeled vehicles and 4 four-wheeled vehicles,” said Kombes Pol Iman.

Meanwhile, investigators have charged the 317 motorcycle theft suspects arrested under several theft laws. Some were charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, as stipulated in Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. This article carries a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

Then, others were charged under Article 479 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 9 years in prison. For suspects receiving stolen vehicles, the applicable article is Article 591 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison.
