progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The Polda Metro Jaya provided an update on the handling of events that occurred following a demonstration outside the DPR/MPR RI building on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The initial expression of grievances had concluded, and the majority of participants had left the site in an orderly manner.

Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Kombes Pol Bhudi Hermanto stated, that the police respect the public’s right to express their views peacefully and responsibly.

After the event ended, officers dealt with a number of individuals suspected of involvement in acts that disrupted public order, damaged facilities, and endangered safety in the vicinity.

“We appreciate the public who expressed their views peacefully and left the location in an orderly fashion. Unlawful acts committed after the event must be clearly distinguished from the actions of the public exercising their right to express their opinions,” said Kombes Pol Bhudi at Polda Metro Jaya on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Regarding those who violated the law, officers took measured, step-by-step police actions to halt the disturbances, prevent the situation from escalating, and ensure public safety.

During the handling of the incident, officers secured several items whose connection to the event is currently being investigated. The evidence includes two machetes, two pairs of scissors, a knife sharpener, 10 PVC sheets, a slingshot, 19 arrowheads, an iron chain, and four bamboo poles.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin added, that 45 individuals have been named suspects based on the results of interrogations and the evidence obtained.

Investigators are also examining alleged criminal offenses related to the destruction of public facilities, collective acts against persons or property, possession of sharp weapons, and the potential involvement of parties who incited or encouraged others to engage in unlawful acts.

“Law enforcement actions are not directed at members of the public who peacefully voice their aspirations. Legal status is determined based on each individual’s role, actions, and the available evidence,” stated Kombes Pol Iman.

Meanwhile, Kombes Pol Rita Wulandari Wibowo, Director of the Women and Children Protection (PPA) and Human Trafficking (PPO) Investigation Directorate at the Polda Metro Jaya assured, that the handling of minors prioritizes their best interests. The process involves social workers, the DKI Jakarta Provincial PPA Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), and community counselors from the Correctional Center (Bapas), while strictly maintaining the confidentiality of the children’s identities.

The Polda Metro Jaya have also arranged for follow-up support for children who have dropped out of school. For those still in school, guidance will be provided in collaboration with educators and the Education Agency to ensure their education continues while preventing any recurrence of similar behavior.

“We will continue to coordinate to ensure these children receive support and guidance tailored to their needs, including the continuation of their education,” said Kombes Pol Rita.

The Polda Metro Jaya also confirmed that the situation in Jakarta is currently secure and public activities have returned to normal.
