Director of the PPA & PPO of the Polda Metro Jaya Warns the Public to Be Wary of Human Trafficking Modus Operandi and Unrealistic Salaries

Director of the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Unit (PPA & PPO) of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Rita Wulandari Wibowo.

progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – The Polri is urging the public to remain vigilant against various forms of human trafficking (TPPO) disguised as job offers abroad. Citizens are also advised to be cautious regarding employment opportunities located in armed conflict zones or those involving military-related activities.

This warning was issued by the Director of the Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking Unit (PPA & PPO) of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Rita Wulandari Wibowo, following the exposure of a syndicate that recruited Indonesian citizens (WNI) to serve as mercenaries in Russia.

“We would like to urge the entire public to be on guard against human trafficking. Be wary of job offers abroad that feature unrealistic salaries or contracts, especially when the company involved is not clearly identified,” said Kombes Pol Rita to reporters at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Polri, South Jakarta, on Monday, November 2, 2026.

She also advised the public to proactively verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies through official government institutions before deciding to depart.

“Check and verify the legality of the company or recruitment agency through the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI)—formerly known as BNP2TKI/KP2MI—or the local Manpower Office. Furthermore, investigate the nature of the job, its location, and the terms of the contract before leaving. Reject any offers for work in conflict zones or roles related to military activities,” she advised.

Additionally, Kombes Pol Rita emphasized the importance of using valid employment documentation. Field findings indicate that many victims were sent abroad illegally by using tourist visas instead of proper work visas.

“Ensure that you depart through official channels using a work visa—not a tourist visa, as many cases have involved the misuse of tourist visas. Also, disregard recruitment efforts made through social media groups or messaging applications by irresponsible parties,” she further explained. (Bembo)
