progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The Polres Metro of North Jakarta announced several disclosures in motor vehicle theft (curanmor) and violent theft (curas) cases that have been disturbing residents of the capital’s coastal areas. The announcement was made by Kapolres Metro of North Jakarta, Kombes Pol Erick Frendriz, accompanied by Wakapolres, AKBP Rohman Yonky Dilatha, and Head of Criminal Investigation, AKBP Awaludin Kanur.
Kapolres Kombes Pol Erick explained, that the disclosures are the result of intensified police operations in response to increasing public concern about street crime.
Various modus operandi used by the perpetrators were also uncovered, ranging from using duplicate keys to impersonating fake police officers.
“All of these disclosures demonstrate our commitment to providing a sense of security to the public. We will continue to pursue the entire perpetrator network, including the receivers,” said Kombes Pol Erick.
Of the various cases that have been uncovered, the motorcycle theft, disguised as a drug raid, by a gang of fake police officers has garnered the most attention. The incident occurred in the area of Post 1 Bahari, Tanjung Priok.
The perpetrators, ORN (31) and ATN (50), along with four accomplices who are still at large, had planned the action meticulously. They used silver airsoft guns and were equipped with fake detective attributes and identification.
In the early hours of the morning, the victim, identified as MNA, was stopped on Jalan Enggano. Under the pretext of a drug raid, the perpetrators accused him of being a drug user.
“They shouted ‘Police Raid!’ to pressure the victim. Intimidated, the victim was helpless as his motorcycle was seized,” said Kombes Pol Erick.
The victim’s Honda Beat Street motorcycle was then taken. Currently, two perpetrators have been apprehended. Four others, identified as DU, ABN, B, and S, are still being pursued.
Then, a different case occurred in the Kebon Bawang area. Criminal Investigation Unit officers were forced to take firm, measured action against two motorcycle theft suspects, BF (24) and AS (21), for attempting to resist and flee.
Before being caught, they were caught on surveillance cameras stealing a motorcycle on Jalan Swadaya by damaging the handlebar lock using a special tool.
During the investigation to uncover the network of receivers in the Samudera Bahari area, the two perpetrators then resisted officers and attempted to flee.
“Because they endangered officers, firm, measured action was taken in accordance with procedure,” said Kombes Pol Erick.
As evidence, a Y-shaped key, a modified key blade, and a folding knife were confiscated from the two suspects.
Another incident involved the uncovering of an electric motorcycle theft in the Kelapa Gading area. The perpetrator, identified as SP alias BT (40), was arrested after being caught stealing the vehicle while the victim was asleep at the neighborhood security post.
The incident occurred near Arion Land Grand Mangaradja. The perpetrator managed to flee to Kobra Field, Koja. However, they were ultimately apprehended by the Jatanras team.
“The perpetrator in this case is an electric motorcycle specialist who exploited the victim’s inattention,” said Kombes Pol Erick.
Furthermore, the Mobile Detective Unit (Resmob) also achieved success in solving a Suzuki Satria FU motorcycle theft case at the Cakung Cilincing gas station. Two perpetrators, SS (38) and ZA (37), were arrested after one of them was caught in a raid on Jalan Yos Sudarso.
During the investigation, a Y-key and a modified tool used to break into the vehicle’s lock housing were found.
“Their modus operandi was almost identical, using a fake key that had been modified to damage the locking system,” said Kombes Pol Erick.
Investigators have charged the arrested perpetrators with different articles depending on the type of crime they committed. For the motorcycle theft case, the suspect is charged under Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
Meanwhile, in the fake police case, the perpetrator was charged with multiple articles: Article 479 concerning Theft with Violence, Article 492 concerning Fraud, and Article 486 of the Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to nine years in prison.
Speaking further, Kombes Pol Erick emphasized, that his team will continue to investigate this case to uncover the wider network, including pursuing the perpetrators who are still on the wanted list (DPO) and the receivers of their proceeds.
“We will not stop until this entire network is uncovered. The role of the receivers is also crucial and we must take firm action against them,” he said.
He also reminded the public to increase their vigilance and use additional security locks for their vehicles. And if you find or become aware of any suspicious activity, don’t hesitate to report it immediately to the nearest police station or contact the Polri Call Center at 110.
