progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA — The Polda Metro Jaya, in collaboration with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, and local government authorities, held discussions on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, regarding the redevelopment of the Kampung Bahari area in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. These discussions serve as a follow-up to law enforcement operations against drug trafficking, with a focus on addressing the local environment, housing conditions, and the livelihoods of the residents.

During the discussions, Kapolda Metro Jaya, Komjen Pol Dadang Hartanto stated, that the approach to Kampung Bahari must extend beyond mere law enforcement. Environmental improvements and the resolution of social issues are essential to ensure the area is no longer exploited for drug-related activities.

“This redevelopment is not intended to leave our citizens—who currently rely on certain sources of income—without a livelihood or a sense of direction. The state is here to provide the necessary support,” said Kapolda Dadang at the site.

Kapolda Dadang also requested a comprehensive re-registration of the area’s residents, including an assessment of their housing conditions and sources of income. Special attention is being directed toward those who earn a living through waste sorting and management, ensuring that the redevelopment process does not strip them of their livelihoods without providing a viable alternative.

In consultations with various stakeholders, it was determined that the cleanup process will be carried out in stages, prioritizing areas that are no longer inhabited. Meanwhile, structures still occupied by residents will be documented first to determine the most appropriate course of action.

Januri, Executive Vice President (EVP) of PT KAI’s Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta stated, that the company has planned the deployment of heavy machinery and waste-removal vehicles, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. These operations will be conducted with strict regard for railway safety and the well-being of the local community.

According to Januri, improving the environment also requires long-term solutions. Therefore, PT KAI, in collaboration with the government, will discuss the possibility of providing alternative housing for affected residents, prioritizing a humanistic approach and dialogue with the community.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (Kementerian PKP), Sri Haryati stated, that the government has a housing assistance program designed to improve the quality of residents’ living conditions. In the Kampung Bahari area, there are currently 46 registered recipients of this assistance, spread across several community units (RW). A re-evaluation and data collection process will be conducted to determine if additional recipients can be included, subject to the availability of program allocations.

Beyond physical improvements, Kapolda Dadang emphasized the importance of neighborhood oversight and community empowerment to prevent the resurgence of drug-related activities. Such efforts require the sustained involvement of the police, local government, and the community itself.

Kapolda Dadang also highlighted the need for economic solutions for the residents, including guidance on waste management and potential support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. These measures are intended to help residents sustain their livelihoods while simultaneously improving the quality of their living environment.

Through inter-agency cooperation, the intervention in Kampung Bahari is expected to not only curb drug trafficking but also foster a safer, cleaner, healthier, and more livable environment for the community. Aamiin. (Bembo)
