progresifjaya.co.id, JAKARTA – A minimarket employee in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, who stole Rp52.5 million from a safe, was arrested by personnel from the Mobile Detective (Resmob) Sub-Directorate, Directorate of General Crimes, Polda Metro Jaya.
In his explanation, the Head of the
Resmob Sub-Directorate, AKBP Resa Fiardi Marasabessy said, the theft occurred on Sunday, February 22nd. The incident went viral on social media. The employee committed the theft while on the night shift.
“The perpetrator, a store employee, took advantage of his position while on the night shift to steal Rp52,270,855 in cash from a safe on the second floor,” said AKBP Resa to the media on Friday, April 17, 2026.
The only thing that was foolish, AKBP Resa continued, was that the employee appeared to be completely oblivious to the CCTV cameras recording his actions. After emptying the safe, he immediately deposited the stolen money into his personal account through an ATM at the minimarket.
The case came to light after discrepancies were discovered in the deposit. This was further confirmed by the CCTV footage, which had not been deleted.
After being on the run for two months, the thief was finally apprehended by personnel from the Resmob Sub-Directorate who had been searching for him. The employee was apprehended without resistance at his hideout in the Kebayoran Lama area of South Jakarta on Monday, April 13, 2026. Items ranging from the perpetrator’s uniform to his cell phone were also confiscated as evidence.
AKBP Resa further explained, that during questioning, the perpetrator admitted to stealing because he was addicted to online gambling (judol). The tens of millions of rupiah he stole were gone in just three hours. It was like the devil’s money being devoured by a demon.
As a result of his actions, investigators charged the employee thief under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning Theft. He faces up to seven years in prison.
